The Accelerated Stream

The International College Edith Stein is the only secondary school in The Hague that offers an accelerated course for class 2 and 3 VWO/Havowith the goal of allowing direct entry into the 4 HAVO and 4 VWO streams.

This class offers students with a disrupted school career the chance of qualifying for an academic Dutch school leaving diploma. The students are often those who have only just arrived in Holland. They have already successfully followed an academic course in their own countries and, once they have demonstrated a good command of written and spoken Dutch, this is the basis for entering them into the 'accelerated stream'. Furthermore, students who have been within the International Education system, either here within Holland or abroad, are welcome.

Within the 'accelerated stream' students follow the Dutch second year programme until January. Most of the students will have already have an extensive knowledge of English and Maths, whilst also being familiar with the subjects Chemistry and Physics. Other subjects are, Geography, Biology, Economics, History, Dutch, Social Studies, Art and Physical Education.

Half way through the school year, from January onwards, the students follow the Dutch third year programme. The students are simultaneously examined at two levels: HAVO and VWO. Although challenging and requiring much hard work on the student's part, the rewards are high with an, (accelerated), chance of acquiring a HAVO or VWO diploma.

From August of the following school year those successful students will then enter the Dutch 'Second Phase', that is, the final two years of either the HAVO or VWO course.
